Head coach Greg Gisinger heads into his third season as mentor at Arcola after a 14-19 season a year ago.

There are several missing players from last winter as the seniors are gone, including a 1,000 point scorer.

Myles Roberts (1,000 point scorer), Kaleb Byard, Alec Downs, Alec Davilla, Jorgee Garza, and Benito Mendoza are gone from the club that lost to Nokomis in the regional semifinals at Neoga.

The Purple Riders and this coach are hoping for an injury free season as they were stricken with the injury bug last season.

Three players from last season return with experience.

Five-foot-eight junior Kevin Garza is back as well as 5-foot-9 senior Ivan Franco.

Six-foot-three Hugo Garza also returns for Arcola.

Coach Gisinger also mentioned senior Ben Crane, junior Kacee Moore, senior Austin Hopkins and senior Jacob Butler as part of the club that looks to improve.

“I look forward to this season and seeing how we progress off of playing good basketball at the end of last season. We lost some key parts to our team, but feel like some guys are ready to step up,” said Coach Gisinger. “Hugo Garza will be a force inside and out and hopefully fill Myles Roberts shoes. We return a lot of players who have varsity experience including, Ivan Franco who missed half of last seasons games, Kevin Garza, Ben Crane, Austin Hopkins, and Jacob Butler. A few new additions to watch for are sophomore guard Beau Edwards (JV player last year) and Junior guard Kacee Moore who missed all of last season with a shoulder injury. I believe we have 10 guys who can contribute which makes us a very deep squad and should make for some competitive practices. Looking forward to year two here at Arcola High School and believe we will have a successful season.”

OUTLOOK – The team is in a new conference but it features the old members of the LOVC of which they were in previously. Look for improvement from this group by the end of the season.
