Head coach Keil Peebles took over the held of the Wildcats last season and helped get the program turned back around.
Although the record of 11-17 isn't spectacular, considering that he took over just a few months before the season began, he got a lot accomplished.
Look for the fortunes to get even better in the coming months and years.
Peebles was an all-state player as a prep at Johnston City and at one time he was the all-time leading scorer at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
He has coached just six years overall, five at his alma mater of Johnston City and last season leading the 'Cats.
Coach Peebles will look at three starters returning to build around.
Six-foot-three senior Justice Hill is an all-GEC pick from last season.
Brody Walker, a 6-foot-2 senior was the top rebounding Wildcat last season.
Dylan Schwartz, a 5-foot-10 senior, is the returning point guard, which will be a big help in the new season.
Justin Austin, a 6-foot-3 senior, was the first reserve in most games a year ago for Carrier Mills.
Coach Peebles is high on his incoming freshman class as he mentioned three ninth graders; Will Gibbs, Darion Barners and DeAndre Moss.
According to the coach, those three will push for playing time at the varsity level.
“We will go as our seniors go. They have really worked hard this summer on trying to get better,” said Coach Peebles. “One key for us will be how fast our freshman progress. If our bench improves and can give our starters some rest, we will be a pretty good basketball team.”
