For head coach Eric Stallman and his Christopher Bearcats, this season looks to be another of the trend upward for a program that has won back-to-back regional titles.

Despite a pair of important players sent down the isle last May, the Bearcats have a trio of players to build around heading into 2017-18.

Bradley Young, a 6-foot-4 forward, is a three-year starter heading into his fourth prep season after shining last year as a junior.

He has already passed the 1,000-point barrier and has grabbed nearly 600-rebounds in his career so far.

Senior point guard Jared Curry also returns as he, at 6-foot-5, is one of the taller point guards that you will find in 1A basketball state-wide.

Curry tossed in just over 14-points a contest as a junior.

Sophomore forward Bryce Pratt, a 6-foot-2 forward, is also a returning starter from the club that lost to Gallatin County at the NCOE 1A Sectional last March.

Coach Stallman will turn to some others with experience to step into the varsity spotlight.

Two seniors; 6-foot-3 Daniel Flowers and 6-foot Tyler Weeks were mentioned along with two juniors, 5-foot-10 Dalton Saeger and 6-foot-5 Gage Hawkins.

Five-foot-eight sophomore Gabe Motsinger was also in the mix for Coach Stallman heading into the season coming off a 17-13 effort last winter.

The Bearcats have upped the ante in the schedule, as they are heading to a third tournament this season as they enter the West Frankfort “Mid-Winter Classic” where they will see some tough competition.

“All-South selections Young and Curry are seniors and will be expected to lead our team,” said Coach Stallman who is 115-77 in seven seasons at the helm. “If they are able to do that we have a chance to build off the success of the last few seasons.

OUTLOOK – The Bearcats will learn a lot about their team when they start the season in their own Thanksgiving tournament with three games in the first week. Despite the fact that they lost a pair of starting guards (Kaeleb Pedigo ane Gabe Schimpf) Christopher is a threat to win the conference title and also a third consecutive regional championship.
