After six seasons away from the bench, head coach Kevin Bowen takes back the wheel of the Lions' program after former Coach Adam Ellis took over for him.Bowen, a Mt. Vernon native and principal at Cisne, is now the head coach again.

Last season the Lions had some good moments in the 10-18 season that ended with a 57-47 loss to Oblong at the 1A Dieterich Regional.

One of the highlights was a win over Patoka, a four-time regional champion, at the Wayne City Holiday Tournament.

Coach Bowen inherits a club that lost two kids to graduation that provided the bulk of the scoring for Cisne.

Jared Taylor and Derek Thomason, both senior forwards, have left the school and with them a lot of production will now fall to some other candidates.

Jordan Hosick, a 5-foot-9 guard, is the main scoring threat returning for the Lions.

Six-foot-five senior Blake Atwood and 6-foot-1 senior Josh Farris played a lot of minutes off the bench a year ago.

Senior Dane Buxton, a 5-foot-9 guard, is an expected starter while there will be minutes available for some others, including 6-foot-3 senior Zach Tannahill.

Coach Bowen mentioned five juniors; 5-foot-9 Malcolm Levi, 5-foot-9 Austin Drake, 6-foot-1 Daniel Stopher, 5-foot-7 Dalton Miller and 5-foot-10 Ian Klingler.

One sophomore; 6-foot-2 Aden Farleigh, is an expected starter for Cisne this winter.

A trio of freshman round out the list; 5-foot-6 Jace Hatcher, 6-foot-1 Conner Brach and 6-foot-1 Brendan Potter.

“As you can see we do not have much experience coming back from last year, but they are working hard each day. It is going to be very important that we understand what a good shot is and have the right people getting the right opportunity to score,” said Coach Bowen. “We will need to compete each night or things will not go well for us. We don't have the talent to float through a game and sneak out a win. Every game will be a grind, but so far they are stepping up to the challenge.”

OUTLOOK – Although many of the teams in the Midland Trail Conference look to be improved, it isn't out of the question that the Lions will be one of those teams that might turn things around. Losing Tayler and Thomason are big loses. However this coach will have his kids working hard for a team cause. Some good things can happen this season for Cisne.
