The Civic Memorial Eagles have a lot of players to replace heading into the 2018-19 campaign.

Coach Ross Laux lost four starters to graduation and one rotation player off the bench that went 18-10 overall and 6-4 in the Mississippi Valley.

The Eagles fell to eventual regional champs Columbia, 55-39, in the semifinals of the 3A Waterloo Regional.

There were some good wins last season as they opened the season by winning the annual Stove Top Stuffing Classic Thanksgiving Tournament.

Two of the missing graduates are Caden Clark and Jaquan Adams.

Both are playing college ball this season at Fontbonne and Lewis and Clark respectively.

Adams, who ended up fourth all-time at the school in career scoring, averaged 19.2 points a game while Clark chipped in 12.0 p.p.g.

Coach Laux mentioned one returning starter; 6-foot-2 senior Bryce Zupan who averaged 11.4 points a game for the Eagles as a junior.

Will Buhs, a 6-foot-4 senior, and 6-foot senior Jacob Coleman, will need to step up for the club according to Coach Laux.

Five-foot-ten junior Noah Turbyfill, 6-foot-1 junior Alex Reams, 6-foot-3 junior Grant Lane and 6-foot-3 junior Travis Hilligoss should all be part of what is happening in the first week of the season for Civic Memorial.

Coach Laux mentioned he could go deep into the roster to find help as he mentioned the possibility of some sophomores and freshmen seeing playing time early.

“Our lone returning starter (Zupan) should really take a step up this year and be one of the leading scorers in the area,” said Coach Laux. He was second team all-conference as a junior and should be one of the top players in conference this year. Big question marks surrounding him and who steps up to help fill roles.”

OUTLOOK – This is a very difficult conference and area to have to rebuild. With just one starter returning there will be a lot of questions that will be needed to be answered early in the campaign.
