CHRIST OUR ROCK LUTHERAN

The Christ Our Rock Lutheran Stallions return several key players from a team that roller coaster-ed their way through the 2016-17 season.

The up and down season was illustrated by a few day span between games with Midland Trail Conference rival Odin.

On February 16, the Stallions hammered the Eagles, 69-43 at home, only to turn around and lose to Odin, 48-34 in the first round of the 1A North Clay Regional.

Head coach Steve Britt is back for a second year after going 8-21 in 2016-17, their first year in the MTC.

The top two marksmen from a year ago return with 5-foot-10 senior Tristan Britt and 6-foot-5 senior Jordan Bent returning after starting the previous three seasons.

Coach Britt also has 6-foot senior Nick Easley and 6-foot-1 junior Haydn Johnston back.

Six-foot-three junior Nathan Ellis will also be in chase for minutes.

All three have an up-side with Easley being a top defender, according to Coach Britt.

Zach Wuebbels, a 5-foot-8 sophomore, could see some minutes along with some freshman who will be looking for some time on the floor.

Tymar Offut, a 5-foot-6 guard, and 5-foot-8 Sam Britt, are in the developmental stage and could be involved in some early games.

Especially since they begin the season at the Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran Thanksgiving Tournament that has 16-teams enter with a possibility of playing five games in six days.

They are entered at the Vandalia Holiday Tournament and the conference looks to be a tough road for the Stallions to gallop down.

“This team should be improved this year we will still be defensive minded, will need Britt and Bent to step up the scoring,” said Coach Britt. “A lot of our success will depend on underclassmen developing their game on both ends of the floor.”

OUTLOOK – They have some talented kids in the program and they are all in the need of developing, especially these incoming freshman, which will provide some depth when needed. The opening week will tell Coach Britt what he has to work with. Look for several more potential wins on the slate this season.
