Finishing at 17-14 last winter while going 2-6 in the Mississippi Division, the Midgets head into 2017-18 with two starters back from a team that picked up a regional win last season (Waterloo) before losing to eventual regional champ Cahokia.

Coach Matt Laur has two starters back and some key reserves to work with to build on the success from last season.

“I am very excited about this team. These guys are now in year 3 of our system and have really figured things out,” said Coach Laur. “They are a great group of young men that work their tails off.”

Zach Muir, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, returns (5.3 p.p.g.) and 6-foot senior Quinn Haug (seven points, five rebounds) are back for Freeburg.

Coach Laur also mentioned Luke Ervie, a 6-foot sophomore who netted 6.4 points a night last winter as a freshman.

Six-foot-four senior Greg Cockrell, 6-foot-4 senior Chandler Bonta, 6-foot-2 junior Carson Smith, 6-foot-3 junior Conner Diecker and 5-foot-8 junor Owen Smith will all be part of the plan.

“We have toughened up the schedule a bit by going to Carlyle for the Kaskaskian Tourney. We also picked up a game in the "Sager Strong Shootout" at MICDS in St. Louis,” said Coach Laur. “I think our conference will once again be very good. We play Pinckneyville in the Carlyle tournament and we saw them a few times this summer. Bobby has a heck of a squad.”

OUTLOOK – This club could be improved this season but the tournaments and the regular season games that they will play won't be easy to pick up wins. They will be up against a lot of good programs and the Kaskaskian Tournament should give this mentor a sense of where they are at heading forward.
