GALATIA
BY JACK BULLOCK
The Galatia Bearcats finished the year 10-17 overall in 2016-17 and were ousted in the first round of the Crab Orchard 1A Regional by the host Trojans which closed the book on the careers of four senior starters.

Five-foot-eleven guard Luke Lawrence, 6-foot Devyn Verbeck, 6-foot-4 Shad Mattingly and 5-foot-10 Kody Matthews all are missing from the 2017-18 edition of Bearcats' basketball.

Head coach Rod Wallace will have some new kids to work with as they try to improve on last season's results.

Six-foot-four Will Pulliam is a forward who has some experience from last season.

Ben Mitchell, a 6-foot-3 forward, 6-foot guard Austin Stevens and 6-foot-7 Austin Pritchett are also seniors who return.

Coach Wallace will also have 5-foot-10 sophomore Braxton Lane who should be the point guard in this lineup.

Others in the mix who are expected to see playing time are 6-foot senior Noah Triplett, 5-foot-10 senior Joel Glenn, 6-foot senior Garrett Beers, and 6-foot-3 junior Alan Marvel.

A.J. Hankins, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, along with 6-foot-5 junior Cole Curry and 5-foot-10 sophomore Caleb Reed round out a pretty deep unit.

OUTLOOK – The Bearcats lost a lot of offensive weapons from a year ago but Coach Wallace has some new kids with some talent and size to step into varsity minutes. A tough opening week to the season at Vienna should give this coach a better idea of how things are going to be in 2017-18.
