Coach Todd Cantrill has been in charge of the Greenville Comets for a long time.
Twenty-three years to be exact. And this program has more than held its own against some really good programs over the years.
The Comets blazed to another winning season last winter, going 19-12 before losing to Nashville in the regional title game.
Greenville went unbeaten in the South Central Conference at 9-0 and hope to continue to dominate the league in 2016-17 with seven returning players.
Perhaps the biggest hole to fill will be at center as 6-foot-4 senior David Holden left the program after graduation last spring.
However the backcourt for the Comets will continue to be a plus.
Coach Cantrill has Ryan Hutchinson and Brady Simpson return as a strong backcourt.
Hutchinson is a 6-foot-3 senior while Simpson is a 5-foot-11 senior.
Both were starters last season for the Comets last season.
Blake Doll, a 5-foot-11 junior, 5-foot-11 senior Christian Moss, 6-foot-3 junior forward Lucas Carlson.
Coach Cantrill (269-248) mentioned two newcomers as part of the seven; Seth Moore and Alex Franklin.
“I'm looking forward to having an athletic and fast team this season,” said Coach Cantrill. “Our conference should be strong with Southwestern, Vandalia, Pana and Hillsboro all return a lot of players.”
