MARSHALL

It is never easy to say goodbye to graduating seniors and Coach Tim Pearison had to send away four senior starters from a club that went 21-7 last season while winning the LIC Tournament.

They had some trouble late in the season, losing to Robinson 69-59, a loss that gave the Maroons the league crown, and then dropping a 56-47 decision in the regional title game at Newton.

And the four seniors will be missed, including a wealth of offensive numbers.

Josiah Wallace, Spencer Shaffner, Brick Finkbiner and Derek Sollers are no where to be found and it is now up to the holdovers from a year ago to make a place for themselves in this program's history.

Coach Pearison has some talent, size and experience returning as they head into their first tournament of the year where they will play four games in less than 36 hours.

Six-foot-senior sophomore Jesse Burdick returns after starting as a freshman a season ago.

He tossed in some modest numbers (5.5 points, 4.7 rebounds) last winter.

His production will likely rise this season.

Senior guard, 6-foot-2 Wade Tharp is also back after adding 3.3 points a game for the Lions.

Look for 6-foot-1 junior guard Isaac Wood to run the show from the point.

Having a pair of guards with experience is a bright spot for Marshall heading into the campaign.

Coach Pearison mentioned some other potential starters; 6-foot-4 junior Marcus Downs, 6-foot-3 senior Cole Boyer.

Ethan Harper, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, and Kyle Sanders, a 6-foot-4 junior, were also mentioned by Coach Pearison.

“We are young with many juniors and sophomores being a big part of our plans,” said Coach Pearison.

OUTLOOK – They sent away over 2,000-points from those four starters and they won't be easy to replace. However this program always seems to survive graduation and the new version of Lions basketball will be ready to challenge for the conference championship.
