The Paris Tigers have a new head coach as Chase Brinkley takes over the program and team that ended up 9-20 with a loss in the 3A Regional Olney Regional to Charleston.

Not only does the program get a new coach will a pretty good coaching background, they are also one of the teams dropping into 2A.

Brinkley played at Paris and graduated in 2009.

He was on a sectional finalist team that lost to Marshall.

Colton Landrum, a 6-foot senior, and Bryce Gladding, a 6-foot-2 senior graduated in the spring.

And there will be another one missing as 6-foot-8 senior center Matthew Brouwer will miss his senior season due to a heart condition. According to Coach Brinkley, “Matthew was having a great summer and looked to have a monstrous senior season, but was unfortunately diagnosed with a heart condition that will sideline him this season.”

Five-foot-eleven junior guard Mason Hutchings will be expected to have a big season. He is one of the most athletic kids in the conference.

Six-foot junior guard Jude Sullivan and and 6-foot-3 forward Logan Rhoads is also back for Paris.

Coach Brinkley also mentioned 6-foot sophomore guard Zach Farnham.

His grandfather (Brad Farnham) played for the University of Illinois back in the 1970's.

Six-foot-two sophomore Conor Breneman is a hard worker, according to Coach Brinkley, which should earn him some varsity playing time.

“We have a few football players planning to play this season who did not last year. We hope they can bring some toughness and winning habits that they acquired on the football field to the basketball court,” said Coach Brinkley. “Casey-Westfield will be the team to beat in my opinion. Coach Brannan is one of the best coaches in the state. He'll have his team ready and prepared. Coach Bishop down at Lawrenceville will be another tough team. Olney, Marshall and Robinson all are well coached and have a bit of talented young men. We will have to be prepared no matter who we play.”

OUTLOOK – Not having Brouwer in the middle will be difficult but the rest of the team looks solid. The fact that they are now 2A should help the mentality heading forward. They have a lot of work to do for this new coach who has learned from some of the best in the state.
