The Pope County Pirates have some kids back from last season as Coach Jim Simmons looks to turn things around after a 6-22 season, 1-6 in the Greater Egyptian Conference.
The Pirates lost to Cobden 67-42 at the Goreville 1A Regional to end the season.
Coach Simmons has some size coming back with 6-foot-8 Jacob Floyd returning for his senior season.
His brother, 6-foot-4 junior Josh Floyd, and himself are Massac County transfers from last season and they have made the Pirates a lot bigger up front.
Nick Walker, a 6-foot-1 forward, also returns as does 5-foot-8 sophomore point guard Matt Davis.
Coach Simmons added the name Sebastian Fasolo, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, to the list.
Three seniors graduated; Isaiah Bramlett, Zack Fasolo and Cody Harris were starters last winter and must be replaced.
“We have five players back from our top seven, so we hope to improve on last year's record,” said Coach Simmons, who has coached in Kentucky and Illinois with 34-years experience.
