St. Elmo-Brownstown were so close in games last season that just slipped from their hands as they finished 15-14 overall. They lost a close game to eventual sectional champion Patoka, 42-40 at the St. Elmo 1A Regional semifinals.
Coach Greg Feezel saw his club in several close games that didn't end up in the win column and for the Eagles fortunes this season, an ability to close out games is a must learn.
The top player from St. Elmo-Brownstown returns for his senior year.
Landon Feezel, the coaches' son, is a 6-foot-5 forward who put together good numbers (17.5 points, 9.1 rebounds) per game for his squad.
A three-year starter and four-year varsity player, Feezel was an special mention ABV 1A all-south choice.
Three other players coming back had profound influence for the program last winter.
Six-foot senior Dylan Brooks, 5-foot-10 senior Jole Louge and 6-foot-1 Klayton Kroll look to be starters for the Eagles.
Coach Feezel mentioned four underclassmen who could make a mark.
Three juniors' 5-foot-10 Lewis Brown, 5-foot-10 Isaac Maxey and 6-foot Dalton Denton and sophomore 5-foot-11 Nate Philpot.
Brown is getting well after ankle surgery and Feezel has been under the weather but is back on track as the season begins.
“We are returning four starters and will be adding 4 JV Players from last years team. We are looking forward to this year and hoping for a good season. I expect us to be competitive in every ball game. We have a few injuries at this time but expect to be healthy by mid December, said Coach Feezel, who was on the 1988 St. Elmo squad that got fourth in the state at Champaign.
