The Heritage Hawks, the cooperative with Villa Grove, went a superb 23-8 last season, winning their own holiday tournament and finishing third in the event at Cerro Gordo and also in the LOVC Tournament.

Tolono Unity ended the Hawks season in the 2A Heritage Regional.

Coach Corey White has a lot of work to do and replacements to find heading into the season.

Heritage graduated a bunch seniors from that team.

“Will Wilson was our leading scorer and rebounder. Jared Stevens was our point guard, led us in assists, and was our second leading scorer,” said Coach White, talking about two important players missing.

Evan Wilson, Bryce Dalle, Kane Davison, and Cole Thomas also left.

But the coach has some kids to work with returning with varying degrees of experience.

First on the list is 6-foot-2 junior Jake Eversole.

Then add 5-foot-10 junior Blake Smith and 6-foot-2 junior Logan Nohren.

Five-foot-eleven senior guard Ierik Sorenson also returns for the Hawks.
Coach White also threw in the names of some kids looking to move up from junior varsity to the big show.

Three seniors; 5-foot-10 Sam Reno, 5-foot-11Mattison Alholwani, and 6-foot-1 Anthony Arbuckle
along with 5-foot-11 junior Ezra Ely and 5-foot-10 junior Isaac Mahoe.

All of those players were on an 18-7 junior varsity squad a year ago.

“We lost four of our five normal starters last year, but still bring back lots of experience as four of our guys returning started at least one game. Our ability to rebound the ball will be important this year. We graduated a lot of our size, and we will be looking to some guys to play bigger than what they are,” said Coach White. “On the flip side, I feel that we are a little quicker than last year. I am not sure we will be as good as we were last year, but I do feel that we will be very competitive. The new Lincoln Prairie Conference will be a dogfight night in and night out. I am really looking forward to it.”

OUTLOOK – The fact that they won a lot of games last year and have kids coming back that were part of the success is something important that can be built upon. Also having a winning junior varsity will players moving up is a bonus. Look growing pains early and success later, the normal stuff when you send away a bunch of twelfth graders.
