ZEIGLER-ROYALTON
BY JACK BULLOCK
The Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes played hard and fought on last season but managed to go just 5-21 on the season.

But the record didn't show how much heart and soul that head coach Matt Morgan has put into this program since he arrived at the school nine years ago.

In his six seasons as head coach, the Tornadoes have battled against the odd with a small enrollment against school much larger than themselves.

However not a complaint could be heard anywhere in the program.

Coach Morgan's club will continue to battle, that is a given.

This season look for continued improvement, even if it is small.

Four starters return with leading scorer Brenden Whiting back for his senior year.

He's a 6-foot shooting guard who has started since he was a freshman.

Five-foot-eleven senior guard Steven Anderson is also back. He was second on the scoring list and the top assist man.

Nolan Domineck, a 6-foot-1 forward, is also a senior returning.

Cam Newton, a 6-foot-2 senior, is the fourth starter returning after working his way into the lineup as a junior.
Jakob Baxter, a 5-foot-11 senior, is also in the picture for the fifth starting spot.

Coach Morgan won't have a deep bench but he mentioned a pair of sophomores and a junior who should help fill in some gaps.

Junior Hunter Cross and sophomores Frank Rebolledo and Bryce Leeper should get some PT early in the season.

“We have some underclassmen that we are going to be asking a lot of this year and I fully expect them to be up to the challenge. Making sure that we compete night in and night out on BOTH ends of the floor is going to be key,” said Coach Morgan.

“I believe that with the core group of Seniors coming back we have a chance to make some huge strides this year. Anderson, Domineck, Whiting, and Newton have been playing Varsity ball for the past couple of years and I am expecting big things from them this year. Their leadership is going to be key for our success as all of them are capable of putting up quality numbers across the board."
