ABV RANKINGS - JANUARY 17, 2011

Top ranked Trico fell from the ranks of the undefeated but not from the top spot here. Murphysboro rolled on with a big win at Harrisburg. Pinckneyville posted a big win at AP top-ranked Teutopolis on Saturday.
Salem Supersectional Area "Top Ten" Class 1A Rankings
1. TRICO (16-1) * 1-1
No shame in gutsy loss to Du Quoin on Saturday. The Pioneers could get a crack at Murphysboro this week at the Sparta Mid-Winter Classic.
2. WOODLAWN (14-3) * 2-0
Picked up a pair of MTC wins on the road last week at Odin and North C lay. Heavy favorites to win the Midland Trail Conference tournament this week.
3. MERIDIAN (15-3) * 1-0
SEC favorite Bobcats romped to a shootout win after 17-day layoff. Meridian could run the table the rest of the regular season.
4. DIETERICH (9-3) 1-0
The Maroons picked up a win at South Central (no score from St. Elmo game) and were snowed out in scheduled game against T-Town.
5. NEOGA (11-6) 1-1
St. Anthony is a tough place to play but the Indians recovered with a win over Brownstown. Neoga will have a shot at Trico at the Benton Shootout on February 6.
6. SESSER-VALIER (12-3) * 2-0
Big win over Goreville on the road last week. Coach Basso's bunch head into the Benton Invitational Tournament with a legitimate chance and going 4-1.
7. GOREVILLE (10-5) * 1-1
Tough loss to Sesser-Valier on Tuesday night but recovered with a victory over Christopher. Blackcats need to stay focused this week at the SEC tournament.
8. WAYNE CITY (14-1) * 2-0
Picked up two more wins at South Central and Clay City-Noble. Coach Gerlach could get a crack at Woodlawn in the MTC tournament title game on Saturday.
9. OKAWVILLE (8-8) * 0-1
These Rockets were grounded by Wesclin on the road last week but they will bide their time by playing one of the toughest schedules. Will jump into the BIT this week.
10. CRAB ORCHARD (16-2) 2-0
Inadvertently left off this list last week the Trojans picked up a pair of nice wins over Carrier Mills and Cairo. Coach Brown's club is a regional threat.
HONORABLE MENTION (IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER)
Altamont, Beecher City, Cairo, Carrier Mills *, Chester *, Egyptian *, Galatia *, Gallatin County *, Johnston City *, Joppa, New Athens *, North Clay, Oblong, Red Hill, Steeleville. *
West Frankfort Supersectional Area "Top Ten" Class 2A Rankings
1. MURPHYSBORO (17-0) * 1-0
The Red Devils handled Harrisburg last week in a SIRR Ohio Division showdown and will now face a pretty good field at the Sparta Mid-Winter Classic.
2. BREESE CENTRAL (15-2) *
The Cougars keep rolling along with victories over Lebanon and Red Bud. The best Mid-Winter tournament in the South is ahead at the NIT.
3. NASHVILLE (15-2) 1-0
The Hornets – because of Mom Nature – didn't get a chance to dance with Murphysboro last week. However Coach Weathers' crew should get a Friday night date with Central.
4. HARRISBURG (15-2) * 0-1
HB didn't fair too well at home against the top one here. They should regroup with a big effort this week at the Carmi-White County Invitational tournament.
5. DU QUOIN (13-2) * 2-0
Toppled previously unbeaten Trico and took care of Anna-Jonesboro in SIRR Mississippi Division action last week. These Indians – when they are on – could make a Peoria move.
6. PINCKNEYVILLE (10-5) 1-0
Plucked a huge plum out of the pie with a win at Teutopolis on Saturday night. Coach Waggonor's team should run the table this week at the BIT – again.
6. MASSAC COUNTY (11-6) * 1-0
Handled winless West Frankfort last weekend and now prepare for their own Superman Classic. Coach Hosman's team is athletic enough to challenge this list of clubs.
7. WESCLIN (12-5) 3-0
The Warriors got back on track with a 3-0 week with wins over Carlyle, Okawville and Gibault Catholic. Coach Vanderbunt will need a supreme effort this week at the NIT out of his team.
8. MARQUETTE CATHOLIC (13-5) * 1-0
Young guns at MC are one of the favorites at the Litchfield Invitational Tournament this week. Picked up an SCC win over Carlinville last week.
9. COLUMBIA (10-7) * 1-0
Another Litchfield Tourney threat – the Eagles are very good when healthy and running on all cylinders. Coach Sandstrom has a regional championship type squad.
10. GIBAULT CATHOLIC (10-5) 1-1
Coach Rueter's team will get a rematch with Wesclin on Tuesdy night at the Nashville Invitational Tournament. The Hawks are looking like a postseason factor.
HONORABLE MENTION (IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER)
Anna-Jonesboro *, Benton *, Carmi-White County *, Carlyle, Carterville, Fairfield *, Greenville, Herrin *, Litchfield, Pana, Pinckneyville *, Roxana, Sparta *, Staunton, and Vandalia.
