With
contests against Lawrenceville on Tuesday and Fairfield next
Friday on the horizon, Coach Kevin Wolf's club could have taken
the Indians lightly.
That
wasn't the case.
The
Bulldogs came out and took care of business early connecting
on four 3-point shots in the first quarter, 12 for the contest,
and they finished the quarter with a 9-0 run.
CWC
cruised to an 18-point halftime lead and rolled home for a 71-37
victory.
The
Bulldogs improved to 22-6 on the season with the victory.
Wayne
City saw its mark slip to 8-21.
Six-six
junior Mitchell Edwards led all scorers with 25-points, with
a trio of spectacular dunks in the second half to go with five
3-pointers.
Junior
Gavin Holloman added 19-points in the win while senior Landon
Driscoll scored 15 in the victory.
Sophomores
James Walker and Javen Loker led the Indians with 15 and 13-points.
Senior
Koby Anderson added five-points for Coach Jake Talbert's club
that plays a pretty tough non-conference slate of games for
a 1A program.
The
Indians were held to 16-of-46 from the floor by the Bulldogs'
defense, just 2-of-12 from long range in the loss.
“We
weren't really able to scout them (Wayne City) with both of
us playing last night but we were able to run some of our stuff
to get our guys some open looks,” said Coach Wolf. “We're
playing well defensively. The guys are buying into what we want
to do.”
Wayne
City had a couple of brief leads in the game with the second
one coming on a 3-pointer from Loker for a 6-4 advantage.
But
CWC got three consecutive made 3-pointers from Holloman (twice)
and Edwards to close out the quarter with a 21-10 lead.
Edwards
canned two straight 3-pointers and scored on a drive in the
lane for a 29-14 lead with 4:32 remaining in the first half.
Another
9-0 run late in the second quarter took whatever remaining drama
out of the matchup.
Consecutive
scores from Holloman and junior Kade Stockton followed up with
a rebound basket from Driscoll and yet another long range bomb
from Holloman increased the spread.
