CARTERVILLE - Much of what you
read about the Lion's Club event on Friday night at RLC is relevant
here in the annual All-Star Game hosted by long-time head coach
Wendell Wheeler.
With the
exception of a few names, the rosters are similar in attracting
some players to the event, to get one last run around a gym
in their own uniform before heading off to other activities
in life.
Coaches
for this event are Shane Garner of Sesser-Valier, last season's
ABV 1A “Coach of the Year” pitted against Mounds
Meridian head coach Erik Griffin, who is this season's ABV 1A
“COY.”The rosters have just 12-players each, so
the substitutions will be fewer which could lead to some additional
continuity to a game (all-star games in general) that traditionally
have trouble living up to the billing.
The Dark
Uniform team coached by Griffin has a pair of his players from
the second place 1A Bobcats; David Davis and Davarae Edmonds.
Davis was
the ABV 1A “Player of the Year” after leading his
team to its first state finals appearance since 1972 while Edmonds
was an ABV 1A Second Team All-South choice.
They will
be joined by Bahari Amaya (ABV 2A First Team Selection) and
Noah Fuller of Anna-Jonesboro.
Fuller was
one of the leaders on the Wildcats and a three-year starter
for the team coached by Mike Chamness.
Others on
the team that weren't mentioned in the Lion's Club preview are
Parker Flamm, also a veteran starter for Cobden for the past
two seasons for coach Rhett Barke, and Jalen Roundtree, a senior
leader for coach Joe Hosman at Massac County.
Carbondale
is represented by Allen Billinger and Moe Jackson, two players
that were part of a sectional finalist in 3A.
Caden Hight
led Century this season and was one of the top scorers in the
south at 22 points a night and he finished with over 1,700 career
points for coach Ethan Stringer.
For the
Garner led White Uniform squad, twin brother's Will and Matt
Galik of Carterville will be part of the contest.
Will was
the 2A ABV “Player of the Year” as he helped lead
the Lions to the supersectional for the first time since 1987
and was coached by ABV 2A “Coach of the Year” Scott
Burzynski.
Four other
1,000 point scorers; Nick Marlo of Sesser-Valier, Andrew Gifford
of Fairfield, BJ Austin of Hardin County and Gunnar Galloway
of Crab Orchard, will also dress for this matchup for Coach
Garner.
Two Pinckneyville
players; Nolan Luke (White Team) and Tristian Fisher (Dark Team)
also made the rosters and will be on opposite sides of the fence.
The same
will happen with the two Nashville representatives; Daniel Thorson
(Dark Team) and Dylan Mueller (White Team).
Robby Doiser
of Marion (White Team) and Quinnton Bent of Vienna (Dark Team)
round out the rosters of the event that will be held Sunday,
March 29 at John A. Logan College in Carterville.
The preliminaries
begin at 1:15 pm with a three-point shootout and a slam dunk
contest.
Tip off
time is approximately 2 pm. |
