For the first time since 1959, the Oblong Panthers won a boy's basketball regional title.

Thanks to the stellar play of 6-foot-3 forward Anthony Johnson, Coach Brent Harper's club advanced to the Red Hill Class 1A Sectional with the win over the Salukis.

Johnson exploded for 34-points Friday night as the Panthers improved to 20-9 on the season with the win. Johnson was "money" from the foul line as he connected on 18-of-21 free throws.

Jordan Harris chipped in eight points for Oblong, who will face Cowden-Herrick on Tuesday night at Red Hill.

Coach Bryan Havill's Salukis, after having dispatched top-seed Hutsonville-Palestine in the semifinals, couldn't overcome the Panthers despite four players notching double-figures in scoring.

The Salukis can point to an 11-25 effort from the foul line as a major factor in their season coming to a halt.
