Fehrenbacher hired at Salem

Former Teutopolis boy's varsity basketball coach Andy Fehrenbacher has been hired as the new varsity boys basketball coach at Salem.

Salem's school board approved the hiring Monday night at their regular board meeting.

Fehrenbacher was not retained as boys varsity coach at Teutopolis last month in what was a highly publicized firing.

He won 200-games in eight seasons as varsity coach at T-Town, having won six regional titles, four sectional titles and his Wooden Shoes made four-consecutive supersectional appearances and seven-straight sectional finals.

Fehrenbacher tweeted that he and his family would be relocating to Salem, and he will be teaching there as well as coaching.

Fehrenbacher, a Flora native, was a long-time disciple of former Teutopolis mentor Ken Crawford and was 200-44 in his eight years at the helm of one of the top small school programs in the state.

His winning percentage (81.9) is the highest in the Wooden Shoes' history.
