ABV RANKINGS - JANUARY 25, 2011

Not much changed after a big mid-winter week around Southern Illinois. Murphy and Trico retained the top spots with the Red Devils showing the Pioneers there is a pretty big gap between the 2A and 1A.
Salem Supersectional Area "Top Ten" Class 1A Rankings
1. TRICO (19-2) * 3-1
Another tough loss to a fired up Murphysboro club shouldn't damper the week. Coach Hawkins knows it is time to get ready for the postseason.
2. WOODLAWN (17-3) * 3-0
The Cards captured their third consecutive Midland Trail Conference tournament title with three straight wins. They should pad some stats between now and the regional tournament.
3. SESSER-VALIER (14-6) * 2-3
The Benton Invitational Tournament was a 2-3 week against some good competition for a 1A club. Coach Basso's team gets Trico again on Friday night.
4. GOREVILLE (13-5) * 3-0
Picked up a big seeding meeting win over Meridian in the South Egyptian Conference tournament title game. Coach Tripp's team can build on this tournament championship.
5. MERIDIAN (17-4) * 2-1
Lost a heart-breaker to Goreville in the South Egyptian Conference tournament finale in double-overtime. The Bobcats need to refocus on the big prize. The regional tournament.
6. DIETERICH (10-5)
Tough game looming in the opening round of the National Trail Conference tournament against Neoga. The winner will face Teutopolis in the semifinals.
7. WAYNE CITY (16-2) * 2-1
The Indians gave Woodlawn all they wanted in the MTC championship contest. Coach Gerlach's team can eye a February 8 rematch at Woodlawn.
8. OKAWVILLE (10-11) * 2-3
Eventually the tough schedule will pay dividends for this young team that will continue to learn. They play Goreville on Saturday at the Pinckneyville Shootout.
9. CRAB ORCHARD (18-2) 1-0
The Trojans haven't won the GEC Tournament in a while. They are the favorites this week. Coach Jon Brown's squad must keep an eye on Carrier Mills.
10. EGPYTIAN (12-5) * 2-1
ABV gives a shout out to the Pharaohs this week after giving Goreville some problems in the SEC semifinals. Coach Matt Mandrell's athletic club can light up the scoreboard.

West Frankfort Supersectional Area "Top Ten" Class 2A Rankings
1. MURPHYSBORO (22-0) * 4-0
It took a last second shot to beat Du Quoin at the Sparta Mid-Winter Tournament but the Red Devils quickly turned things around against 1A power Trico. Still the top dawg in the hunt.
2. BREESE CENTRAL (18-2) * 3-0
BC nabbed another Nashville Invitational Tournament title on Saturday night with a slug-fest win over rival Mater Dei. Will tackle Du Quoin in the top game at Pinckneyville on Saturday.
3. NASHVILLE (17-3) * 2-1
Dropped a tough one to Central on Friday night but recovered with a key win over Gibault for third place in the NIT. The Hornets hit the road for a pair this week @ Carterville and Carlyle.
4. DU QUOIN (16-3) * 3-1
The Indians nearly shocked the top one here on Friday night. This is a dangerous team for anyone this postseason. The Breese Central game could be a classic.
5. PINCKNEYVILLE * (15-5) 5-0
They folks at Benton might as well rename the BIT the PIT (Pinckneyville Invitational Tournament) because the Panthers have won 35-straight games in the tourney.
6. PANA (14-3) 4-0
The Panthers earned some respect here with a Litchfield Invitational Tournament title win Saturday night. A regional favorite that should eventually win the SCC East.
7. HARRISBURG (18-4) * 3-2
Hard to figure out what went wrong with losses to Fairfield and Mt. Vernon (IN.) this week at the CWCIT. Recovered in time to beat Olney in the tournament final.
8. MASSAC COUNTY (13-7) * 2-1
Gave Kentucky powerhouse Paducah Tilghman fits in an overtime loss at the Superman Classic. The Patriots will be heard from very soon.
9. GIBAULT CATHOLIC * (11-7) 1-2
Upended Wesclin in the opening round of the NIT then lost to a pair of good ones. Tough Independent schedule will have the Hawks ready late in the season.
10. WESCLIN (15-6) 2-1
After a toe-stub against Gibault – the Warriors picked up wins over Freeburg and Mascoutah to take home the consolation title at the NIT.
