CARBONDALE - The mid-winter tournament season is final finished which was three consecutive weeks of nearly non-stop games.
The postseason is starting to take shape in the terms of the seedings of the teams will happen soon.

The biggest game of the season when it comes to the 2A Sub-sectional A that feeds into the Pinckneyville Sectional will occur Tuesday, February 7.

Breese Central will travel to Columbia for a Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division showdown that will decide the conference championship and the top-seed.

Both of these teams have played tough schedules to get to this point.

The initial contest between the two was snowed out back on December 23 and that game will be made up on February 16.

The Eagles have won all three of their tournaments this season while the Cougars have faced some brutal clubs in tough events.

Conference titles will also be determined in the SIRR River-to-River divisions.

Massac County and Herrin have another game to play at Herrin on February with both teams sitting at 5-1.

The Patriots and Tigers have split two games with Herrin winning big in the title game of the Eldorado Holiday Tournament and Massac winning the rematch at home six days later.

Carterville is two wins away from winning the Mississippi Division championship for the first time since they came into the league in 2010.

The Lions had a hiccup against Goreville at the Superman Classic but have responded with five straight wins, including a victory over Nashville.

The Carterville/Pinckneyville rematch is at Duster Thomas Gym coming up on February 16.

Newton won the Little Illini Conference tournament last Friday night, beating Richland County in the final on the Tigers' floor.

However, because of scheduling, they faced 3A Marion the next afternoon at the Pinckneyville Showcase and it wasn't pretty (68-47 loss) so the bloom didn't last long on the rose.

Their game at Teutopolis on Tuesday will likely determine the top-seed in the Sub-sectional A that feeds into the Newton Sectional.

Since the Wooden Shoes host one of the two regionals the Eagles could avoid T-Town until they would perhaps face them on their own floor.

The LIC regular season race isn't over yet.

Casey-Westfield is currently on top in the league and Mount Carmel is second.

The Warriors are a game in front of the Aces and the two will meet Friday at C-W.

Mount Carmel hasn't won a boy's varsity basketball conference championship since 1998-99 in the old North Egypt Conference.

Mounds Meridian can add another South Egyptian Conference championship to the trophy case with a win over Marion Agape Christian on February 10.

Since rejoining the SEC in 2009, the Bobcats have won or shared 14 regular season titles.

Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran has all but wrapped up the Midland Trial Conference championship in their final season in the league.

The two remaining games (Grayville, Sandoval) are a combined 16-27. Other than a road game at Alton Marquette, the Silver Stallions won't likely be tested until the regionals start.

Crab Orchard sits at 21-2 after winning the annual GEC tournament. The Trojans final conference game will be February 16 at Hardin County.

A win over the Cougars will complete a 7-0 run for the title which would be their first out-right championship since 2015.

1. ALTAMONT (19-3)
The Indians defensive stood strong in three wins at the NTC Tournament as they took home their second consecutive crown. Big games coming up to get the top seed in their sub-sectional.
2. CASEY-WESTFIELD (14-6)
The Warriors are 6-0 versus 1A teams. Two narrow losses at the LIC to 2A ABV ranked teams shows they have the talent for a postseason run.
3. CENTRALIA CHRIST OUR ROCK LUTHERAN (21-0)
The Silver Stallions play at Father McGivney and Alton Marquette this week, who are both right at .500. The next winning record team is St. Elmo/Brownstown February 14.
4. EFFINGHAM ST. ANTHONY (17-9)
The Bulldogs got shut down by Altamont in the NTC finale. They get a rematch with the Indians on the road February 14.
5. NORTH CLAY (16-7)
Following a beat-down from St. A, the Cardinals rallied for a third place win over Dieterich. They will be a dangerous postseason team.
6. NOKOMIS (22-5)
The Redskins have won six-consecutive games are leading the MSM conference. They will host Altamont on Friday in what could be postseason preview.
7. MOUNDS MERIDIAN (15-10)
The Bobcats record is misleading. They have played some good 2A teams, including a lost to Robinson at Pinckneyville. Still work to do.
8. GOREVILLE (15-7)
Four of the seven losses are to 2A teams and another is to a top Missouri team. They will get another try with Vienna coming up for conference honors.
9. STEELEVILLE (13-11)
The Warriors picked up two wins last week without their top scorer. They will head north next Saturday to the QND Shootout to play state-ranked Augusta Southeastern.
10. TUSCOLA (20-3)
These Warriors picked up a win over Sullivan in the first round of the CIC tournament. Still in the hunt for a top sub-sectional seed.
Knocking on the Door in Alphabetical Order. Arcola, Cisne, Crab Orchard, Cumberland, Dieterich, Gallatin County, Marissa/Coulterville, New Athens, Neoga, Okawville, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield, Pope County, South Central, St. Elmo/Brownstown, Waltonville, Wayne City, Webber Township and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.
1. COLUMBIA (23-2)
The Eagles bounced Salem and Waterloo last week. Four of the remaining games are against teams that will end up with 20+ wins, including twice against Breese Central.
2. PINCKNEYVILLE (22-3)
The Panthers added wins over rival DuQuoin and Teutopolis at home at their own shootout. Another important seeding game at home Saturday against Freeburg.
3. BREESE CENTRAL (22-3)
The Cougars responded with a couple of wins this past week on the road over Roxana and Highland. Upcoming games with Mater Dei and at Columbia are important.
4. MASSAC COUNTY (20-4)
The Patriots got a wake up call from Paducah Tilghman before topping Murphysboro and Cairo over the weekend. Still some tough games left on the schedule.
5. NEWTON (16-8)
After taking home the LIC Tournament title, the Eagles dropped a game to 3A Marion at Pinckneyville on Saturday. Game at Teutopolis on Tuesday is huge for seeding the sub-sectional.
6. LAWRENCEVILLE (19-5)
The Indians finished third at the LIC. As well as they have played, they are just 3-3 in their last six. More progress will be needed the remainder of the schedule.
7. VIENNA (23-3)
These Eagles can end up in a nice postseason spot if they can win out. Home game with JC and road game at Goreville the final week of the regular season will decide the BDC West title.
8. CARTERVILLE (19-5)
The Lions recovered from a loss to Goreville to win five consecutive. Games coming up at West Frankfort and at home to Massac County.
9. TEUTOPOLIS (16-7)
The Shoes lost three consecutive games last week. Tough schedules tend to be unforgiving but there is time to regroup. They will still be one of the favorites to get to SIU.
10. CARMI-WHITE COUNTY (18-4)
The Bulldogs strength of schedule isn't on par with the ones above. The final seven regs have five teams who are above .500.
