The Tigers season came to an end in the regional title game at Mt. Vernon.

Jon Harrison, a 6-5 junior, paced Herrin with 17 points while sophomore guard Kyrese Lukens added 14.

Exavier Williams, a junior guard, added seven points while senior Haydon Mayer was held to just five points.

Herrin and Coach Sayler Shurtz saw their season close at 26-5.

The Rams were led by 5-11 junior guard Navonte Nesbit, Jr. with 24 points and 6-3 senior Rolen Adams with 11.

Mt. Vernon (22-8) advances to the 3A Centralia Sectional to face Triad on Wednesday.

The Knights (27-6) beat Jerseyville 42-25 to win the Civic Memorial Regional on Friday.

ALTAMONT 59, NOKOMIS 37
Two weeks ago the Indians narrowly escaped with a four-point win over the Redskins at Nokomis.

Friday night's rematch wasn't as close as Coach John Niebrugge's club rolled to the regional title and into the 1A Altamont Sectional with a dominant win.

The Tribe is now 28-4 and will face Casey-Westfield on Tuesday night.

Six-one senior guard Avery Jahraus nailed down eight 3-pointers while classmate 6-3 Mason Robinson did his damage inside of the arc.

Jahraus (25) and Robinson (20) outscored Nokomis themselves in the regional title game triumph.

Senior Eric Kollmann added 10 points for Altamont.

Nokomis and head coach Dan DeWerff ended their season at 27-7.

Senior Elijah Aumann (15) and senior Ryan Eisebarth (nine) paced the Redskins.

Jahraus hit three of his 3's in the fourth quarter while Robinson hit 4-of-6 free throws to close things out.

The sectional semifinal game against the Warriors is a rematch of a contest from December 20th won by Altamont, 48-47.

The Warriors had a tough customer to deal with on Friday night as they edged the Hawks to advance.

Coach Tom Brannan and his team trailed Meridian 28-27 at the half but an 18-10 run in the third quarter gave C-W the cushion it needed to hold on for the regional championship.

Senior guard Jackson Parcel led the way for the 19-10 Warriors with five 3-pointers and both senior Jacob Clement and freshman Nolan Clement added 10 points.

Six-three junior Connor Sullivan scored all seven of his points in the pivotal third frame.

Macon Meridian, who began the season with 13-consecutive losses before winning 7-of-8 games heading into Friday night, were led by seniors Brett Brown and Roy Ralston with 12 points apiece.

The Hawks closed the season at 10-22.

The Bulldogs are no stranger to postseason success and they advanced to their 26th sectional with a upset of the state-ranked and higher seeded Silver Stallions.

Coach Cody Rincker and his Dawgs 'dogged' CORL, holding the high scoring bunch to 31 points below their average in the victory.

St. Anthony (22-12) got 20 points from junior Collin Westendorf in the win and nine points from sophomore Ryan Schmidt.

Trailing heading into the fourth quarter 30-28, St. A outscored the Stallions 12-4, including 6-of-8 free throws in the final minutes.

Sophomore Brock Fearday (eight) and senior Griffin Sehy (two) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs.

CORL had their brilliant season come to a close at 30-3.

Junior guard Parker Boehne scored 13 points for the Stallions while senior Ryan Wuebbles added 10.

The Bobcats took a first quarter lead and held off the Blackcats in a game that featured 54 personal fouls, technical fouls and fan ejections.

The real star and story of the game was Meridian's senior guard Roderic Gatewood, Jr. who lit up the scoreboard with 35 points for his club.

Meridian improved to 22-12 on the season for head coach David Davis as they head to the Gallatin County Sectional next week after winning their first regional title since 2017.

Senior backcourt mate Tristen Mackins added 24 points for the Bobcats as they move on to meet Wayne City on Wednesday night.

Javionne Ranson, a 5-8 freshman, contributed 10 points in the win as the Bobcats were up 40-25 at halftime and 56-36 heading to a hectic fourth quarter where 61 points were scored, 34 by Goreville.

The Blackcats finished their campaign at 24-10.

They were led by three players with double figures with 5-11 junior Drake Moss netting 23 points.

Senior Ian Sopczak scored 17 points, 10 in the fourth quarter, while senior Marquavion Cleaves ended up with 13.

The Hawks, after upsetting top-seed Crab Orchard on Wednesday night, cut down the nets on Friday with a win over the Fighting Cardinals.

Coach Craig Utterbeck has his team heading home to the Gallatin County Sectional after the win.

Six-one sophomore guard Wyatt Jackson stepped up with a 19 point effort to lead the now 15-14 Hawks.

Rylie Rushing, a 6-7 senior, added nine points while 6-4 junior Noah Richardson added five in the low scoring game.

NCOE (19-13) had the season come to a close as they were trying for consecutive regional championships.

Coach Jordan Johnson's team was topped by seniors Preston Long and Joel Hortin with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Seniors Cord Tucker (five), Colby Prather (two) and Erik Healy (two) rounded out the scoring in their final prep basketball games.

Gallatin County avenged three losses to Crab Orchard and one loss to NCOE in winning the school's fifth regional championship since its beginning in 1987-88.

The Hawks will host Webber Township on Tuesday night, a rematch of a game from the Wayne City Holiday Tournament back in December, a 56-38 win by the Trojans.

The Trojans pulled off a major comeback in beating the Red Devils Friday night for Coach Brad Beaty's second regional championship as head coach of the program.

Trailing by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter, Webber Township outscored S-V 14-1 to close out the game for the regional championship.

The Trojans are now 22-11 on the campaign and will travel to Gallatin County on Tuesday night to face the hosts.

Freshman guard Nathaniel Marlow scored a game high 21 points, including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Trojans rallied for the win.

Senior Weston Hails and junior Josh Lewis added eight points each as Webber Township outscored the Red Devils 23-12 in the decisive final stanza.

Sesser-Valier and head coach Tommy Holder saw the season come to an end at 11-20.

After having won 6-of-8 contests heading into the title game, missed free throws (7-of-15 overall, 4-of-10 in the final quarter) doomed the Devils.

Senior Gabe Gunter scored 12 points for the Red Devils while fellow senior Blake Menser and junior Colt Packer added 10 points each.

The last time the Indians won a regional championship in boy's basketball was 1993-94.

That drought came to an end on Friday night as head coach Jake Talbert and his squad took care of their business with a win over perennial 1A contender Okawville on Friday night at the New Athens Regional.

The top-seed got 17 points from 6-6 senior Justin Durham, including 5-of-6 free throws in the fourth quarter to close out the win over the Rockets.

Six-three senior Grant Lewis added 14 points and senior guard Chase Smith scored 11.

Grayson Habermaas added eight points for Coach Talbert as they will now play Mounds Meridian Wednesday night at the Gallatin County Sectional.

Okawville and mentor Ryan Heck saw the season conclude at 13-21.

The Rockets got 13 points from 6-7 sophomore Aiden Anderson while three other players; senior Grant Sandifer, junior Dillon Teter and senior Hayden Shubert, each scored eight points.

Anderson scored eight of his points in the fourth quarter but the Indians held on for the win as they improved to 25-7.

The Wooden Shoes snagged the program's 36th regional title on Friday night at home by outscoring the Maroons 30-12 in the middle two quarters to put the trophy away.

Coach Chet Reeder and his squad advance to the Newton Sectional with the win behind 19 points each from seniors James and Brendan Niebrugge.

Six-five senior Caleb Siemer added 11 points for T-Town (26-7).

Robinson and head coach Mack Thompson saw their season come to a close at 21-12.

Six-five senior Cooper Loll ended up with 11 points as did senior guard Nathan Werz.

The Wooden Shoes held Robinson to just 15-of-47 from the floor, 1-of-6 from the 3-point line, in the win.

Teutopolis was much better from the field, hitting on 24-of-56.

T-Town will face Alton Marquette on Wednesday night.

The Explorers won the Litchfield Regional with a win over Pana.

Holding just a narrow 33-30 lead heading in to the fourth quarter at home on Friday night the Indians outscored the Golden Aces 18-5 in the final eight minutes to nab their first regional title since 2016 with the victory over their rivals from the Little Illini Conference.

Coach Randy Bishop has his team at 25-8 after the regional championship and they will face Greenville on Tuesday night at the Newton Sectional.

Bryant Jenkins, a 6-3 junior, scored 16 points which included 7-of-9 fourth quarter free throws as they pulled away from MC.

Sophomore Maddox Pargin scored 10 points with a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter.

Landon Sanders, a 6-1 junior, scored nine points; senior Leyton Ivers scored eight points and sophomore Parker Hardiman added seven in the Indians win.

Mount Carmel saw their season come to an end with just senior Gavin Smith hitting double-figures with 10.

Senior Gage Kennard hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points for the 20-11 team that won a share of the LIC championship this season, its first conference championship since 1999.

Head coach Cody Best, in his first season at the helm of the Explorers' program, added to the boy's basketball success with yet another regional championship.

The win Friday night marked the 13th regional title for the program and the fourth consecutive not counting the covid19 2020-21 campaign.

Six-four junior forward Jaden Rochester scored 17 points and senior Kendall Lavender added 12 as the Explorers advanced to the Newton Sectional.

Senior guard Parker Macias scored five points and junior Braden Kline, junior Sean Williams and senior Jack Spain each scored three points.

Marquette closed out the game by hitting 10-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter, 14-of-17 for the game, to eliminate the Panthers.

Coach Adam Metzger's club finished their season at 18-15.

Six-four senior Devon Peebles scored 13 points for the Panthers while senior Ace Armstrong (eight) and senior Max Lynch (seven) in the season ending defeat.

Coach Todd Cantrill now has five of the regionals titles as his team led at the end of each quarter in the victory over their former conference rival Shells.

Landen Moss, a 6-1 senior guard, led the offense with four 3-pointers and 14 points in the win.

Sophomore forward Cale Ackerman added 12 for the Comets who improved to 21-11 on the season as they will play Lawrenceville on Tuesday night at the Newton Sectional.

Junior Nick Grull added eight points for Greenville in the triumph as the Comets have now won 8-of-10 games with their fourth straight victory.

Roxana, after upsetting higher seeded EAWR and Southwestern, saw the season close at 12-22.

Coach Mark Briggs got eight points from 5-10 junior Chris Walleck and seven points from junior Aidan Briggs in the loss.

The Cougars eliminated the Knights for the second consecutive season in a regional title game (at Nashville) behind 17 points from senior guard Cody Dickshot.

Junior Zane Schrage scored all 12 of his points in the second half while junior Mason Shubert and senior Chase Lewis added eight and seven.

Central (28-4) hit 18-of-22 free throws and 13-of-16 in the final quarter to advance to the Pinckneyville Sectional where they will meet Carterville on Wednesday night.

Mater Dei (14-17) and head coach Cory Arentsen were led by senior Dalton Markus with 14 points and senior Jacob Hustedde with eight.

Coach Jeremy Shubert's club, after losing to Mater Dei 48-44 back on February 3rd, have won six-straight.

The program added its 18th regional title to the case on Friday.

CARTERVILLE 71, VIENNA 53
The Lions trailed the Eagles 36-35 at halftime before putting together two exceptional quarters in winning their 13th regional championship in the school's history on Friday night.

Coach Shane Hawkins got his club going, out-gunning Vienna 36-17 in the final 16 minutes to advance to the Pinckneyville Sectional where they will face Breese Central on Wednesday night.

Kade Lustenberger, a 6-5 senior, scored 22 points for Carterville (26-6) in the win.

Senior guard Blake Burkey came up big, nailing four 3-pointers and finishing with 17 points while senior guard Caden Hawkins end up with 14.

Peyton Bittle, a 5-7 senior guard, scored 12 points in the onslaught.

The Lions made nine 3-pointers in the contest to eliminate Vienna.

Coach Stephen Dreher and his teams' splendid season came to an end at 29-4 and its 10-game winning streak was snapped.

Seniors Tommy Holhubner and Charlie King led the Eagles with 18 and 14 points respectively.

Marcato Constante scored eight points for Vienna while three other Eagles, junior Owen Treat, junior Buddy Clay and junior Dayton Nichols scored four points each.

Burkey hit three of his 3's during a 22-10 third quarter and Carterville hit 6-of-9 free throws in the fourth quarter to advance.

MASSAC COUNTY 55, MURPHYSBORO 40
The Patriots won their second consecutive regional championship (17th overall) by beating their rivals to win the Benton Regional.

Coach Joe Hosman's kids stepped up to improve to 26-5 on the season and they will now head north to play the host Panthers at the Pinckneyville Sectional on Tuesday.

After a two-game skid on February 10-11 in losing games to Herrin and Benton by a combined 39 points, the Patriots got back on track and took home the program's

Isaac Hosman, a 6-0 junior guard, sparked the win with 20 points (four 3-pointers) and five assists.

Senior Brady Cissell scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Massac County, senior guard Brody Smallman scored eight points and senior Ian Higgerson added seven.

The Patriots hit 18-of-25 free throws in the game and they led 26-15 at the half before pulling away late for the win.

Coach Daryl Murphy's club had their season close at 21-10 as 6-1 senior Kevin Hale scored 15 points and 6-0 sophomore Cade Brooks added 10.

The Patriots and Panthers haven't met in boy's basketball since Massac County beat Pinckneyville at the Carbondale Super-Sectional back on March 9, 2004, a 47-46 Patriots win.
