NASHVILLE 56, WESCLIN 29
The Hornets moved into the title game of the Central Regional with a resounding win over the Warriors – behind 22-points from Kyle Heggemeier.

The 6-foot-3 senior marksman nailed three 3-pointers and was 7-of-9 from the foul line as Nashville improved to 21-8 on the season and will get a shot at Breese Central – the ABV West Frankfort Supersectional Area top rated squad – in Friday night’s championship contest.

Nashville trailed 12-8 at the end of the first quarter but roared away from Wesclin with a 17-6 second quarter.

Brock Pries – a 6-foot-4 senior guard – finished with six points but all of those points came on a pair of 3-point bombs in the second quarter scoring sprint that gave Nashville a 25-18 lead at intermission.

Wesclin (13-16) finished the game by scoring just 11-points in the final 16 minutes of play as their season came to a close.

Six-foot-seven junior center Phil Kunz led Wesclin with 14-points while Alex Wilken added 10.

Only four Warriors scored in the game as the normally hot shooting Wesclin team failed to connect from beyond the 3-point line.

EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER CLASS 2A REGIONAL
EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 52, COLUMBIA 48 (2OT)
The Oilers edged Columbia for a shot at Metro-East Lutheran on Friday night with a double-overtime triumph.

Delarro Smith of East Alton-Wood River led Coach Adam Miller’s club with 18-points in a slugfest win over the Eagles to improve to 21-6 on the season.

Five-foot-seven senior Kevin Tharp added 11-points to the totals while Lucas Cobb pitched in 10.

Columbia saw its season end at 21-9 with 5-foot-8 junior guard Bryce Bastien topping the Eagles with 18.

EA-WR was a paltry 11-of-26 from the free throw line but made enough of them to post the win.

VANDALIA CLASS 2A REGIONAL
VANDALIA 55, HILLSBORO 51

The Vandals will play in the title game of their own Class 2A Regional on Friday night after rallying for a four-point win over the Hiltoppers in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Coach Kevin Jackson’s club outscored Hillsboro 22-17 in the fourth quarter for the win.

Will Cowger paced the Vandals (16-10) with 13-points as three other players (Daniel Bell, Bryan Hosick and Marty Johnson) scored 10-points each.

In a foul plagued game (46 fouls) the Vandals did the most damage from the stripe – hitting 26-of-35 free throws in the game – including 13-of-15 in the fourth quarter.

Hillsboro (9-18) saw its season end on a sour note in spite of 12-points apiece from Nolan Rappe and Colby Cooper. Rappe hit four 3-pointers for his dozen.

HARRISBURG CLASS 2A REGIONAL
CARMI-WHITE COUNTY 48, HAMILTON COUNTY 33
The Bulldogs (17-12) romped past the Foxes in the Black Diamond Conference rivalry game that was the semifinal game on Wednesday night as Lawson Warren paced the Dawgs with 19-markers.

The 6-foot-5 junior hit for seven field goals in the game – four of which came in the pivotal second quarter when CWC took a 25-16 lead into the lockerroom at the break.

Clay Matheny added 12-points for Carmi – who advances to play the host Bulldogs in the regional finale on Friday.

Coach Jarrod Newell saw his squad take advantage of the Foxes’ foul problems by hitting 19-of-28 free throws (10-of-16 in the fourth quarter) compared to just 1-of-3 for Hamilton County.

The Foxes (16-14) were led by Duke Greisemer with 17-points as this 6-foot-5 senior closed out his final prep game with six points in the fourth quarter to try and keep his team close.

RED HILL CLASS 1A SECTIONAL
HUTSONVILLE-PALESTINE CLASS 1A REGIONAL
NEOGA 59, DIETERICH 50
Trailing by a 23-9 count at the end of the first quarter didn’t shake the Neoga Indians as they rallied for a nine-point win to advance to the regional finale with Bryn Price and T.J. Roy pacing Coach Jason Hanson’s team with 15 and 14 points respectively in the win.

Dalton Robinson added 10-points for Neoga.

Blake Kuhl led Dieterich (13-13) led the Movin’ Maroons with 13-points while Cody Hinterscher added 11.

CUMBERLAND 63, STEWARDSON-STRASBURG 45
The Pirates won this matchup with Reed Draper exploding for 26-points - which included three 3-point shots and 7-of-8 free throws in the triumph as Cumberland improved to 22-6 on the season.

Stewardson-Strasburg saw its season end at 14-12 with Jon Hoene leading the way for the Comets with 14-points while Chris Koontz added 10.

Senior guard Will Rincker chipped in nine points as this senior laden team saw its campaign close.

Cumberland and Neoga will hook up on Friday night.

ALTAMONT CLASS 1A REGIONAL
ALTAMONT 75, COWDEN-HERRICK 57
Brian Suckow scorched the Hornets with 35-points for Altamont as they crushed its fellow conference mates in the regional semifinal on Wednesday.

Suckow – the Indians 6-foot-6 swingman – hit 8-of-9 free throws in the performance as Coach Doug Hill’s Tribe will take on Brownstown in the Regional title game Friday night.

Jordan McGinnis added 22-points for the Indians as they pulled away after intermission by outscoring Cowden-Herrick 41-24 in the second half.

The Hornets ended its season at 10-13 while Altamont improved to 17-9.

Cowden-Herrick got 16-points from Tyler Day, 14-points from Colton Heiserman and 12-points from Jesse Hager in defeat.

BROWNSTOWN 58, ST. ELMO 43
Coach Terry Pruemer’s Bombers sank the Eagles on Wednesday night and will now have a rematch with Altamont – a team they have lost to twice this season.

Brownstown was topped by Michael Kramer with 16-points while Jared Winters added 15.

Conor Riley added 10-points for the Bomb Squad who improved to 17-11 on the season.

St. Elmo (12-16) saw its season end with three Eagles hitting for double-figures.

Senior guard Zeke Asher ended his prep time on the floor with 11-points while Chris Logue and Ben Sperry chipped home 10-points each.

ELDORADO CLASS 1A SECTIONAL
CRAB ORCHARD CLASS 1A REGIONAL
WALTONVILLE 63, ZEIGLER-ROYALTON 43
The Spartans – the second ranked team in the ABV Class 1A Salem Supersectional Area – used 22-points from Gavin Bassett to advance to the title game at Crab Orchard on Friday night and ended the Tornadoes season in the process.

Coach Mike Denault’s Spartans jumped out to a 15-5 early lead and were never really threatened in improving to 22-6 on the year.

Dylan Johnson added 19-points as Waltonville proved once again that they have many weapons that can detonate at any time offensively.

Skyler Witges and Joseph Lewis – each averaging around 15-points each for the season – were held to a combined nine points by Z-R but their teammates stepped up.

Tyler Mitchell closed out his outstanding prep run with 23-points.- 14 of which he netted in the second half for the Tornadoes who ended the season at 17-13.

Waltonville will face the winner of Thursday nights’ Sesser-Valier/Crab Orchard semifinal winner on Friday.

GALLATIN COUNTY CLASS 1A REGIONAL
CARRIER MILLS 59, ELDORADO 53
The top-seeded Wildcats survived a scare on Wednesday night and advanced to the regional title game with a six-point win.

Coach Mark Motsinger’s team rallied from a five-point half-time deficit to take control for the win to improve to 25-4 on the season.

Six-foot-one senior guard Wyatt Kirkland went over the 1,000-point mark on the night and his two free throws late in the contest helped ice the game for the Wildcats, as they will take on the winner of the NCOE/Gallatin County game to be played on Thursday night.

Eldorado got 29-points from Cody Lane – as this 6-foot-4 senior scoring machine surpassed the 2,000-point plateau in his final prep game.

Cody Johnston added 14-points as the Eagles closed its season at 16-15.

CAMPBELL HILL TRICO CLASS 1A REGIONAL
TRICO 57, STEELEVILLE 51
The Pioneers are looking for their second regional title in three seasons after topping rival Steeleville to advance to Friday’s title tilt.

Coach Shane Hawkins saw his team get a bit of revenge on the Warriors – who beat Trico a week ago in the regular season.

Logan Thies – a 6-foot-1 junior guard – netted 17-points in the win while backcourt mate Jesse Smith added 16.

Trico (20-9) RUSH-ed past Steeleville 21-12 in the fourth quarter in the come-from-behind win.

Steeleville closed out its season at 14-14 despite 5-foot-11 junior guard Nick Potter pouring in 19-points.

Potter nailed five 3-pointers in the game while teammate Josh Diercks – a 5-foot-7 senior guard – added nine points on three trifectas.

Andrew Pokrzywinski added 14-points for Coach Gerald Mumbower’s team.

OKAWVILLE 40, NEW ATHENS 39
Six-foot freshman guard Ryan Burrough hit a shot in the lane at the buzzer to lift Okawville to a one-point win and yet another trip to a regional final.

Okawville improved to 16-14 with the win while New Athens saw its mark end up at 17-10.

Six-foot-four senior Nick Frederking led the Rockets with 18-points as they will match up with Trico on Friday night in the championship.

Burrough finished with nine points while Jeremy Weeke added five.

Vince Kiefer – a 6-foot-4 junior – finished his season with 16-points for the Yellow Jackets.

Tyler Womack and Cody Gaubatz – both seniors – finished their careers with eight and six points.

MOUNDS MERIDIAN CLASS 1A REGIONAL
MOUNDS MERIDIAN 57, CAIRO 53
The Bobcats - the ABV top-ranked Class 1A Salem Supersectional Area team - nearly saw their dream season become a nightmare as Cairo (14-14) led nearly the entire game but faltered at the end as Meridian (27-1) rallied for the victory.

Jerry Johnson – Meridian’s 6-foot-3 sophomore – put in a game-best 21-points as the Bobcats won the contest of up-tempo clubs.

The Pilots were their own worst enemy – connecting on just 9-of-22 free throws in the game.

Cairo received 15-points from Arthur Williams and 14-points from Lee Wright in the loss.

Meridian got nine points each from Dereco Amos and Zach Mitchell in the win for Coach Jeff Mandrell.
