Okawville, Mt. Carmel, Alton Marquette win sectionals Friday night

CARBONDALE 1A SUPERSECTIONAL
AT NOKOMIS 1A SECTIONAL
EFFINGHAM ST. ANTHONY 66, PATOKA 57
The St. Anthony Bulldogs are going to make their first supersectional appearance since 2001 after dispatching Patoka to win the Nokomis 1A Sectional title on Friday night.

Six-foot-three senior forward Drew Gibson led the Bulldogs with 28-points in the win to improve to 26-5 overall.

Adam Levitt and Alex Deters tossed in 19 and 14-points respectively for the Bulldogs, who will face Woodlawn on Tuesday night at SIU Arena.

The Bulldogs won the battle by nailing 91.6 percent from the free throw line (22-of-24) to advance with Gibson hitting 10-of-11 himself.

St. A was 14-of-15 in the fourth quarter from the stripe.

For Patoka (29-4), it is a close of an era.

The brilliant prep career of 6-foot-1 senior Jered Cain came to an end as the senior led all scorers with 33-points in his final contest.

Cain finished his four-year run with 2,817-points, which places him at 11th place all-time in the State of Illinois.

But the Warriors' failure to convert from the charity stripe doomed the 28-4 team.

Coach Joe Eddy saw his team hit just 6-of-20 from the line.

High scoring 6-foot-5 senior forward Garrett Belcher was held to just seven-points while forward Bailey O'Brien added 10.

Patoka missed all five free throw attempts in the fourth quarter when they needed to rally.
