The Cardinals won the fifth boy's basketball sectional title in the school's history on Friday night thanks to a dominating performance by senior point-guard and leader Ross Owens.

The 6-foot-5 senior netted 28-points on Friday night, including three 3-pointers, as the Cardinals improved to 28-3 on the season and 5-0 all-time in sectional title games.

Six-foot-three senior Austin Ballard added 18-points to the victory totals while seven-points each was scored by junior guard Blake Wollerman and sophomore forward Trey Isaac.

Brett Harris, a 6-foot-5 senior, added 5-of-5 free throws for the Cards along with leading the team with nine-rebounds, who were 23-29 from the line.

Christopher (26-4) was led by 13-point from senior guard Hunter Wheeler and 11-points from sophomore Bradley Young.

Six-foot-three senior Josh Calloni scored 10-points for the Bearcats, who led 24-23 at halftime but outgunned 44-24 in the second half by Coach Shane Witzel's Woodlawn club.

The Cardinals will now face Patoka, a 64-58 winner over Effingham St. Anthony at the 1A Red Hill Sectional, on Tuesday night at the Carbondale Supersectional.

Owens, who had some shooting trouble in the Cardinals win over Meridian on Tuesday night in the semifinals, hit 8-of-10 field goal attempt, 3-of-4 from the 3-point.

He also hit 9-of-11 from the foul line.

Woodlawn finished 16-of-31 overall.

WATERLOO GIBAULT 48, OKAWVILLE 40
The Gibault Hawks pulled the upset of the night, taking down the ABV 1A top-ranked Rockets to make their second supersectional appearance in three years.

Coach Dennis Rueter's team was led by 6-foot-6 senior forward Brian Deterding with 22-points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 from the foul line, all in the fourth quarter as Gibault improves to 24-9 on the season.

Trevor Davis, a 6-foot-4 junior, added six-points and a team-best 10-rebounds in the win while 6-foot-5 junior Colin Kessler chipped in 11-points.

Gibault overcame a a five-point halftime deficit by outscoring Okawville, 29-16 in the second half to advance to the 1A Jacksonville Supersectional where they will face Liberty, who won the Bushnell Prairie City Sectional 71-62 over Peoria Quest Charter Academy.

Okawville's season comes to an abrupt halt at 28-5 as the Hawks managed to hold high-scoring Noah Frederking to just eight points on the night.

Brad Fuhrhop, a six-foot senior, led Coach Jon Kraus' squad with 13-points while Shane Ganz, a 6-foot-3 junior, netted 12.

BREESE CENTRAL 73, NASHVILLE 59
The Cougars, the ABV top-ranked team in 2A in the final regular season ranking, moved to the Carbondale 2A Supersectional with a commanding victory over the Hornets to win the Pinckneyville Sectional behind 23-points from senior Logan Kohrmann and 13-points from senior Chase Schneider.

Kohrmann, a 6-foot-2 guard, connected on 10-of-14 from the floor on the night as the Breese Central improved to 29-4 overall with an outstanding 27-of-39 shooting performance (69.2 percent).

Nashville saw its season close out at 21-11 and the prep career of 6-foot-7 senior Royce Newman closed as he led his team with 22-points and five rebounds.

Brogan Kemp (nine) and Ryan Brink (eight) chipped in points for Coach Brad Weathers' team.

The Hornets weren't nearly as good shooting the ball as Central, making just 22-of-54 overall (40.7 percent).

Mitchel Rule added 10-points for Coach Jeremy Shubert's club who will now face Teutopolis on Tuesday night at SIU Arena.

Central will be vying for their sixth supersectional title in the program's history.

The Wooden Shoes (26-6) will be aiming for their seventh supersectional crown on Tuesday night after dispatching Lawrenceville on Friday night to win the 2A Flora Sectional behind 11-points each from seniors Michael Drees and Kyle Smith.

Coach Jason Hanson saw his club get some revenge on the Indians after having lost to them 77-74 at the Lawrence County Capital Classic back on November 28.

Coach Randy Bishop's team was led by senior Harry Loeb with 19-points while senior Dylan Volkman added 14-points as the Tribe saw its season end at 28-3.

Lawrenceville was just 16-of-26 from the foul line while the Shoes were 13-of-18.
