CLASS 1A
AT RED HILL

WOODLAWN 53, OBLONG 51

It is a long distance from Woodlawn to Bridgeport but the Woodlawn Cardinals can call Red Hill its home away from home.

For the fourth consecutive season the Woodlawn Cardinals are sectional champions in boy's basketball with three of those titles won at Red Hill.

Head coach Shane Witzel's club turned back a serious challenge from Oblong to win their third Red Hill 1A Sectional by rallying past the Panthers on Friday night behind some long distance shooting.

Woodlawn (26-5) advances to their fourth straight supersectional with the win by nailing eight 3-pointers in the contest, including a pair of big 3's in the final quarter by Kris Harlow and AJ Webb.

Christian Hollenkamp, a 6-foot-4 senior forward, led the Cards with 15-points on the night while Webb and Harlow added 11 and 10 respectively in the win.

Woodlawn trailed the Panthers 36-31 at the half but defensively they stiffened in the final two quarters.

Oblong's Anthony Johnson, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, scored 17-points in the first half but Woodlawn held him to just four more points (21-points overall) in the final 16-minutes.

The Cardinals hit 11-of-16 free throws in the contest, including 5-of-7 in the fourth quarter.

Coach Brent Harper saw his club end its season with the loss to fall to 20-10 on the season with their deepest run in boy's basketball postseason history.

Guard Collin Meese netted 10-points for the Panthers while Ryan Cheek scored all of his seven points in the fourth quarter.

Woodlawn will face top ranked and ABV number one Meridian on Tuesday night at the Carbondale 1A Supersectional.

Meridian topped Crab Orchard 75-67 to win the Gallatin County 1A Sectional.

AT VANDALIA
BREESE CENTRAL 74, PANA 52
The Breese Central Cougars quest for yet another trip to Peoria is just one win away from becoming a reality.

Coach Stan Eagleson's club overcame a sluggish start to top Pana in the title game of the Vandalia 2A Sectional, behind senior forward Brandon Book who scored 26-points in the triumph.

Trailing early in the contest, Central changed the complexion of the game with a 20-2 run to end the second quarter as the Cougars improved to 31-1.

Book was nearly unstoppable.

Besides his 26-points, this 6-foot-6 four-year varsity vet grabbed 12-rebounds and was credited with seven blocks.

Six-foot-four senior Jared McMillen led all scorers for Pana with 29-points as the Panthers closed their campaign at 26-5.

One of the keys to the Central win was the defensive play of Nick Grapperhaus, as this 5-foot-10 senior guard shut down Mitchell Beyers, holding him to just six points.

Beyers had been averaging 13.4 points a game and had 31-points in the semifinal win over Pittsfield.

Grapperhaus added 15-points to the Cougars' offense while teammate Jacob Timmermann was also in double-figures with 13.

Besides McMillen, no other Panther reached double-figures for Coach Gary Bowker's club.

Like Woodlawn, this is Central's fourth supersectional appearance in succession.

The Cougars will face the winner of the Pinckneyville/Harrisburg sectional final to be held on Saturday at 2 p.m.
