CARBONDALE 1A SUPERSECTIONAL
AT HARDIN COUNTY
CAIRO 60, HARDIN COUNTY
57
The Pilots advanced to the sectional finals but it wasn't easy as they had to hold off a rally by the host Cougars in the fourth quarter.

Cairo's Dave Taylor broke the final tie of the game with a 3-pointer in the final :30 to give his club the win as they improved to 11-13 on the season.

Taylor led the Pilots with 19-points while teammate Demetrius McGee, a 6-foot senior, also added 19-points for Cairo, who will now play Meridian on Saturday night in the title game of the sectional after bad weather forced the postponement of this sectional semifinal for two days.

Hardin County saw its marvelous season end at 23-7 as senior guard BJ Austin closed out his career with 18-points while sophomore Tyler Winters added 15.

Austin Seavers netted 14-points for Coach Rodney Lane's club that won a regional championship for the first time since 1986 after being the three-seed at the NCOE Regional.

CARBONDALE 2A SUPERSECTIONAL
AT BENTON 2A SECTIONAL
CARTERVILLE 77, TEUTOPOLIS 63
The Lions have rode the hot hands of twins Will and Matt Galik all season and the duo came up big again on Friday night in the title game of the Benton 2A Sectional.

The two not only combined to score 52-of-77 points for Coach Scott Burzynski, the two seniors made 22-of-23 free throws as the Lions pulled away to reach the program's first supersectional since 1987.

Matt topped all scorers with 27-points while Will added 25.

Austin Swalls added 11-points for Carterville, who led 46-41 heading to the fourth quarter before pulling away from the Wooden Shoes.

Teutopolis (26-5) were seeking their fifth sectional championship in a row but fell short of the supersectional.

Six-foot-five junior Brett Mette led the Shoes with 16-points as they were unchacteristically poor from the foul line as they hit just 11-of-22 for the contest.

Sophomore Mitch Hardiek scored 11-points for Teutopolis while senior Tyler Gebben added 10 in the loss.

Carterville improved to 25-4 on the season and will face Breese Mater Dei in the supersectional at SIU-Arena next Tuesday night.

CARBONDALE 2A SUPERSECTIONAL
AT EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER
BREESE MATER DEI 51, PINCKNEYVILLE 37
Facing a gauntlet of regular season and postseason foes has paid off in a big way as the Knights have shinned in the last two weeks.

They have advanced to their first supersectional since 1996 with a win over the Panthers Friday night.

Coach Ron Schadegg saw his Knights improve to 23-10 overall against a brutal schedule of games as they hope to make their second trip to Peoria, having finished second in Class A in the first year the finals were held in Peoria.

Ben Lampe, a 6-foot-4 senior, led all scorers with 21-points and the Knights shut down Pinckneyville's top scorer Nolan Luke to help secure the win.

Junior Nick Pollman added 10-points for the Knights.

Luke, who netted 27-points on Wednesday night against Roxana, found the going much tougher on Friday night against the massive BMD front line as he finished with just seven-points (one field goal) for Bob Waggoner's team.

Tristan Fisher led the Panthers (25-7) with 10-points.
