ARRIER MILLS 53, SESSER-VALIER 48
The Carrier Mills Wildcats not only won their first regional title in 23-years last Friday but they added their first sectional win since 1986 with a come-from-behind win over the Red Devils.

Coach Mark Motsinger’s club rallied behind three double figure scorers and they hit 8-of-10 free throws in the final frame to eliminate Sesser-Valier.

The ‘Cats are now 26-4 and will face either Okawville or Mounds Meridian on Friday night.

Dallas Beeding came up big with 15-points including a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Wyatt Kirkland added 13-points while Luke Morgan netted 11.

Justin Matyi – a 6-foot-4 junior center – pounded the ball at Carrier Mills in scoring 23-points to top all point producers.

However he scored just two points in the fourth quarter.

He got very little offensive help as CM shutdown the other Red Devils.

Dane Eubanks was second on the team with eight points for Coach Danny Kirk’s team that fell to 23-6 in this coach’s final game before retirement.

Carrier Mills finished 11-of-15 from the foul line.
WEST FRANKFORT CLASS 2A SECTIONAL
HAMILTON COUNTY 67, DU QUOIN 60
The Hamilton County Foxes love to play in sectional games at Max Morris Gym.

It was just three seasons ago that Coach Curt Reed’s club won the WF sectional title by beating Goreville and West Frankfort to reach SIU Arena.

On Tuesday night Ham Co. sent Du Quoin back to Perry County with a 67-60 loss by outscoring the Indians 35-25 in the fourth quarter.

The Foxes were led by Shelby Williams with 28-points while Kane Smith added 17 and Seth Thomas chipped in 12.

Jacob Denham nailed a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Foxes improved to 23-9 on the season.

Du Quoin bowed out at 22-8 with the loss despite 22-points from Jamar Reed and 13-points from Dalton Morgan.

Hamilton County will play the winner of the Wednesday night Massac County/Herrin game this coming Friday.

VANDALIA CLASS 2A SECTIONAL
GREENVILLE 67, STAUNTON 50
The Comets advanced with its third win over conference rival Staunton this season as they pulled away in the fourth quarter for the win.

Coach Todd Cantrill’s club improved to 26-5 on the season and will await the winner of the Breese Central/Columbia contest this coming Friday in the sectional title game.

Derek Atchison – a 6-foot-3 senior forward – led all scorers with 27-points while Ryan Mulholland put up 14.

Rutger Neece scored 10-points for the Comets.

Staunton saw its season end at 20-10 with Cody Best scoring 12-points while teammate Lucas Loots added 10.

Greenville broke open a close game at the half by outscoring the Bulldogs 50-36 in the second half.

The Comets were a blistering 67 percent from the field (21-of-31) on two-point shots and 24-of-40 overall.

Greenville also was money from the foul line hitting 16-of-19.
