Last season was a learning experience for first year head coach Troy Bierman and also his Eagles' team.

Newton finished 6-22 overall with a quick postseason exit, losing to Robinson at the Effingham St. Anthony 2A Regional.

Players lost to graduation from a year ago are Zak Finn, Mason Conlin and Connor Bierman.

However there are four players back who started at different points of the season for this coach.

Six-foot-three senior Kyle Schafer is one of the main guys back along with 6-foot-1 senior Justin Zumbahlen.

Two other seniors; 6-foot-1 Seth Weber and 6-foot Jarrett Tharp also have experience.

Three other seniors and a couple of sophomores are part of the Eagles' season.

Five-foot-eleven senior Jerald Eckl, 6-foot senior Aaron Einhorn and 6-foot senior Mitchell Zumbahlen will be joined by 6-foot sophomore Evan Schafer and 5-foot-8 sophomore Ben Meinhart.

“Our lack of depth and experience showed last year. We struggled to compete with bigger and deeper teams. We concentrated on these areas hard this off-season and are looking for major improvements for each game,” said Coach Bierman.

OUTLOOK – The Eagles are in a tough spot in a league that has a lot of size on the floor, this team will need to utilize the weapons they have to be competitive. Work still needs to be done.
