The Warriors, a state ranked and ABV Top Ten club, won the program's first boy's basketball regional title since 2013 with a convincing win over the Lions.

Coach Aaron Fiene and Company survived a scare in the semifinals against Webber Township and turned a close game into win with an 18-7 second quarter to lead 36-22 lead at the half.

Steeleville, now 26-6, was paced by 6-0 junior guard Jacoby Gross with 18-points while senior Zach Mevert added 16.

Mevert led the free throw parade for the game with 4-of-4 as the Warriors were 12-17 from the line.

Six-foot junior Carter Wasson added eight-points for Steeleville in the win as they advanced to the Okawville 1A Sectional to face Goreville on Tuesday.

The Blackcats dispatched Cobden at the Egyptian Regional, 64-54.

Edwards County (15-18) had its postseason run end as Coach Kevin Schnicker saw his club beat Waltonville and Wayne City to get to the title game.

The Lions were paced by senior Dylan Rhodes with 15-points while senior guard Alex Calverley added 10.

WATERLOO GIBAULT 31, MADISON 27
Coach Dennis Rueter and his Hawks pulled one of the surprises of the 1A tournament with a win over the Trojans Saturday night.

Ian Bollinger, a 6-0 senior, scored 16-points and the Gibault defense held Madison well below it's season scoring average (50) in the victory on the Hawks home floor.

Junior Kameron Hanvey added six-points in the low scoring affair.

Madison saw it's season close at 17-12 with the loss with junior Carlis Wilson scoring seven-points to lead the Trojans.

Junior Derrion Enlow and senior Deangelo Enlow each added six-points for head coach Phillip Gilbert.

Gibault improved to 22-9 and will now face state-ranked Liberty Tuesday night at the White Hall-North Greene 1A Sectional.

The Eagles, now 27-5, topped Winchester West Central 59-39 to win the Griggsville-Perry 1A Regional title.

Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran and Jacksonville Routt will play in the Wednesday night sectional semifinal.

The Knights and coach Anthony Smith beat Greenfield/Northwestern, 58-51, to take home the title of the Hardin Calhoun 1A Regional.

The Routt Rockets took care of state-ranked Concord Triopia, 51-38 to win the Pawnee 1A Regional championship.

BREESE CENTRAL 46, BREESE MATER DEI 30
The Cougars won the Wesclin Regional by besting their crosstown rivals on Saturday night, taking an early lead and never allowing the Knights back in it.

Central improved to 27-5 on the season with the win, after having lost 7-of-8 recent contests to Mater Dei, including a 32-25 loss on the road February 4.

Six-four senior Luke Strubhart paced the Cougars with 15-points while junior Mason Shubert (13) and junior Cody Dickshot (11) were the other double-figure scorers.

The Knights and head coach Cory Arentsen saw their season end at 20-12 with 6-0 senior Cameron Haag closing out his prep basketball career with 12-points to lead the Knights who never led in the game after a cold shooting first quarter.

Six-four junior Dalton Markus added six-points for Mater Dei.

The Cougars will now face Massac County on Tuesday night at the Carterville 2A Sectional.

The Patriots beat Hamilton County on Friday night, 63-45, to win the Eldorado 2A Regional title.

The undefeated Tigers fell in the championship game on Saturday night at home to the Wildcats as Coach Rob Flanagan saw his team taste defeat for the first time in 2021-22.

Marion (17-13) advanced to the Highland 3A Sectional to play East St. Louis, Sr.

Coach Gus Gillespie's Wildcats held on for the win thanks to a pair of big defensive plays in the final two minutes.

Bryson Wilson, a 6-2 senior, made a steal and scored on a fast-break lay in with 1:38 left to give the Wildcats a 41-36 lead.

Six-two senior Venson Newsom in the final seconds blocked a 3-point attempt by Richland County's Chase Travis that would have tied the game.

Richland County finished its splendid season at 27-1 as Travis was the only Tiger in double-figures with 14.

Six-four junior Evan Noelle topped the Wildcats with 11-points while Rayzhaun Bardo, a 6-2 senior, added 10.
