BLUFORD - When you crunch the numbers for Wednesday night's Midland Trail Conference battle at Webber Township it was simply a case of the host Trojans having a clear letdown after a big MTC victory the night before.

After a 46-43 win over rival Woodlawn less than 24-hours prior, the hosts were in way too giving of a mood on Wednesday.

Webber Township came out “flat” to say the least against visiting Christ Our Rock Lutheran.

The end result was 22-turnovers by the Trojans as they also allowed 13-offensive rebounds, numbers that are not conducive to winning basketball.

The Silver Stallions collectively said “thank you very much” as they improved their overall record to 5-5 on the season and are sitting tied for first place in the MTC race with Cisne at 2-0 after a commanding 59-44 road win.

While the win wasn't a thing of beauty, CORL will take it as they handed Webber Township its first league defeat.

The Trojans are now 7-7 overall and 1-1 in the MTC.

Christ Our Rock jumped out to an early lead, weathered a brief rally by Webber Township in the second and fourth quarters, and left Jefferson County with its second league win.

Individually the Silver Stallions had three double-figure scorers in the scorebook, led by 5-11 junior guard Myles Pryor with 21-points.

Pryor led the CORL long range assault with five of the clubs' seven made 3-pointers.

Six-one senior Brayden Such added 12-points for CORL and 5-9 senior Drew Jackson chipped in 10.

In fact eight different players scored for the guests.

Parker Boehne, a 5-10 sophomore, added seven-points and 6-5 junior Ryan Wuebbles was next with four-points, with two buckets coming in the first quarter in part of a 10-2 game opening run that gave CORL the lead for good.

Coming off of a 55-45 loss the night before against South Central, CORL came out with a big effort on Wednesday night in an important league contest.

If you're looking for a bright spot, or spots, for Webber Township on Wednesday night it would be the play of 6-7 junior center Hunter Danberry (15-points) and 6-0 sophomore Josh Lewis (11-points) for the Trojans.

Webber Township did managed to make 12-of-15 foul shots in the contest, a figure that could've been much larger had they taken advantage of the Silver Stallions' first half foul issues.

They made 9-of-11 from the line in the first quarter.

However also part of the first quarter for Coach Brad Beaty's club was seven of the teams' turnovers and a 1-of-7 field goal shooting effort as they trailed 15-11 at the first horn.

Five of the offensive rebounds allowed by the host also occurred during an early stretch where CORL took the lead.

Through all of the issues, Webber Township was still in striking distance at halftime, behind 11 of Danberry's points in the first half the Trojans trailed just 29-22 at the break.

However the third quarter wasn't what the doctor ordered for the hosts.

A 3-of-13 shooting effort to go along with seven more turnovers dug an even bigger hole than in the first half.

Pryor scored 12 of his points in the third quarter push by CORL, nailing down three of his five 3-point bombs.

He started and finished a 15-2 Silver Stallions' scoring run that pushed the visitors to a 44-26 lead with 2:29 left.

Fittingly his third bomb came off of an offensive rebound as CORL led 47-28 heading to the fourth quarter.

For a brief moment beginning the final quarter, the Trojans mounted a comeback.

Scoring six-consecutive points Webber Township cut into the deficit at least momentarily.

That wasn't nearly enough of a run as CORL closed out the game hitting enough free throws late (6-of-10) and 12-of-20 for the game.

Added all up CORL won the statistical battles overall.

The Silver Stallions out-rebounded Webber 31-27 (including the 13 second chances) and were more efficient shooting the ball, especially from long range.

CORL was 7-of-16 from the 3-point arc, 20-of-49 overall.

Although they were turnover prone as well (18-turnovers) they forced more than they coughed up and they defended well enough that the Trojans never got going.

Webber Township ended up 15-of-47 overall, 2-of-12 from the arc, which wasn't good enough in a key MTC contest.

CORL will face Maryville Christian on the road on Saturday before hosting Cisne next Tuesday in a battle for first place in the Midland Trail Conference.

The Lions took care of Sandoval on Wednesday night and, like CORL, sit at 2-0 in the league standings.

Webber Township will need to regroup as they host rival Waltonville on Friday before hosting Johnston City next Tuesday.

“It is just tough to get ready for back-to-back nights,” said Webber assistant coach Jackson Pierce. “I don't know if we were mentally tired or physically tired but we just have to hope that we can learn from these kind of games and bounce back stronger.”
