The Warriors overcame a sluggish start to beat upset-minded New Athens in the opening game of the PIT.

Trailing 37-32 at the end of three quarters of play, Steeleville (1-0) outscored the YellowJackets 23-8 in the final quarter to pull out the victory.

Jeff Mulholland paced the Warriors with 18 points while Adam Eggemeyer added 13.

Justin Snider came off the bench and hit a big 3-pointer in the final frame for Steeleville.

New Athens (0-1) got 17 points from Kevin Andres while Andy Herwerth and Luke Poston contributed seven and five points each.

The new era of Marissa-Coulterville co-op basketball got off to a good start with a win over Waltonville in the second game Monday night.

Ten different players scored points for Coach Andy Johnson.

Jake Laumbattus poured in a team-high 16 for the Meteors (1-0) while teammate Tim Miesner added 15.

Zach Hickman pitched in eight points while Ryan Lloyd and Brian Hayden added seven apiece.

Waltonville (0-1) got 24 points from Adam Kitowski and nine points from Tim Skidmore.

M-C jumped out to an 17-9 first quarter lead, which they stretched to 35-23 by intermission.

Lance Musselman knocked down 16 points while James Stiens added eight points.

Jamone Lipsey led the Falcons with 12 points while Ryan Holland and Zach McClanahan added 11 each.
